As I sit at our mini ranch, watching the cows while drinking my morning coffee and breathing in the fresh country air, I suddenly realize that people move. I hope they get up and move around, but that is not my message. Families own homes in multiple locations or relocate for new opportunities or countless other reasons. This isn’t a new concept, but it has been a while since I truly considered the impact this movement has on businesses. So, with a fresh cup of coffee in hand, I grabbed my laptop and started digging into the numbers. Did you know that 25.87 million Americans—7.8% of the population—move every year? . That’s a significant shift in the customer landscape—one that business owners often overlook.
A significant challenge businesses face today is that when customers leave, they take their immediate revenue, lifetime value, and potential referrals. I am a business owner just like you might be. I am also a partner in multiple companies with multiple other business owners. Most of us are also investors in companies. We also talk with business owners daily.
I was excited yet frightened. How many business owners forget about this market and do not try to attract new clients? Most importantly, how many clients have they lost due to a move but never replaced?
It is time to have a solid plan, ensuring you attract new clients daily so we never have to run from behind to catch up. Businesses can dry up fast, and you may not see it because it happens so gradually.
